Greetings all,
As many of you know, we’ve been on the hunt for a new space.
Good news! We’ve found a suitable space.
If this is the news you’ve been waiting for, then now’s the chance to get involved.
We’ve sent out a survey to our subscription members and we’ve managed to get a budget that is 90% of the way there.
With your help, we’ll hit our target and be in a comfortable position to establish Potteries Hackspace in the new space.
Please let us know your answers to these few questions on our survey:
The new space, based in the Hanley, our city centre…
Potteries Hackspace is a hackspace is a place for people with common interests, often in computers, technology, science or art, can meet, socialise and/or collaborate.
Our aim is to provide and maintain a shared community workspace and equipment, to further our skills and share experience with the community around Stoke-on-Trent and the wider Potteries area.
The best way to get involved is to become part of our community online and join the discussions on our mailing list. We’d love to get to know you, so the easiest way to get started is by introducing yourself to us on the Potteries Hackspace groups mailing list.

In light of our on going efforts to find a new space, a new decision has been made by the group to introduce new membership fees:
The rules for membership fees are as follows:
- We’d like to say that you can pay what you like on a monthly basis, however in order to reach our aim we’ve introduced standard rates.
- Members found to be paying less than they are taking from the Hackspace will be asked to up their contributions.
For example: If you are found to be using more space than just your storage box, then you will be asked to contribute more.
£25 is the new recommended standard rate, as a regular member you will be expected to pay this as a minimum.
£15 is the “starving hacker rate”, these will be people who may not be able to afford the standard rate at that time and will receive all the normal benefits.
Space is at a premium, so you will be expected to pay more if your project takes up more space. The same goes for water, electric and Internet bandwidth.
If you have any questions about this, please use our online discussion group or speak to us in person at the next open meeting.

Pilgrims Pit contacted Potteries Hackspace looking for help to make a pedal-powered generator. Why do they want to generate electricity from pedal power? We will get to that, but first: who or what is or are Pilgrims Pit?
